If you're local to my bakery in Brockley, South East London, you can pop in every few weeks to buy cakes by the slice! 

This is perfect if you're not keen on having cake delivered, maybe you work shifts and aren't always home for the postman, or you just like to come and see what's available IRL....

The menu changes seasonally, I love to choose a theme and run with it, or test items that will be in future subscription boxes! The best sellers are the salted caramel brownies, funfetti cake, and the banoffee pie, so I try my best to include them as often as possible. If you're lucky, there will be freshly baked cookies (still warm!) at 10am! 

You can pre-order treats for upcoming Slice Saturday via my website - but please make sure you select "pick up" if it hasn't automatically set that option for you, and don't use apple pay! Maybe one day I'll pay for a separate website for this - but until now this is my best option! 

This is a take away only option for now, but if I'm still able to offer this option in a few months we'll look at some seating in our car parking spaces!

The bakery is a 5 min walk from Brockley station, you can use the London Overground to reach us, it's about 15 mins from Whitechapel or 10 mins from London Bridge. It's best not to follow google maps, as they only cover main roads/streets and obviously our yard isn't covered by them at the moment. You'll walk over the bridge towards Nunhead, and find me within an industrial estate of small local businesses. It's behind a gate to the left of the launderette (did you know this launderette featured in a David Bowie video!?). If you pre-order, you'll have instructions on how to get in, but otherwise just ring the buzzer for 48 and it will phone me directly.

A really simple bake for Halloween: you can bake these from scratch using my recipe, or you can cheat and grab a pack of ready made madeleines from the supermarket and decorate them like mine! 

They're the perfect alternative to cupcakes for a Halloween grazing board, or to gift at parties. Be sure to bake them on the day you're serving them as they're not a cake that lasts so well! 

This recipe will be featured in October's Cat Food Chronicle, a mini magazine that's included in every subscription box, with recipes and articles as well as info about what is inside the box.

Madeleine Ingredients

2 eggs

100g caster sugar

100g plain flour

1 tsp baking powder

100g unsalted butter 

1 tsp vanilla extract - or try lemon or orange zest if you like. 

Extra flour and butter for preparing your Madeleine tin. 

To Decorate

300g chocolate of your choice or candy melts. 

Chocolate colouring - I use colour mill, but use this sparingly as it can affect the taste of the cakes. 

Sprinkles and spooky decorations - Use CATFOODCAKES to get a discount at Shire Bakery! 

Method

1. Melt the butter and leave to cool. 
2. While the butter is cooling, whisk the eggs and sugar until thick and pale, then carefully add the flour and baking powder, folding in a little at time. 
3. Mix a large spoonful of the batter into the melted butter and then fold the mixture into the rest of the batter.  Cover in cling film, and chill for a few hours (or up to 2 days) before baking. 
4. An hour before baking, grease and flour your Madeleine tin, tapping any excess away. Chill the tray in the freezer. 
5. Spoon the batter into the Madeleine tin, and bake at 200 celsius for 8-10 minutes. Turn them out onto a wire rack immediately to cool. 
6. Decorate with melted chocolate and sprinkles. I use white chocolate coloured with lime green color mill and dark chocolate to make frankensteins, orange color mill with white chocolate for the pumpkins, white chocolate for mummies - sprinkles are all from Shire Bakery!

September's theme was a dedication to the cookie monster, setting myself the challenge of making 3 types of cookie and some cookie themed treats to go with them, I can't decide if the star of the show was the cake pot or the tartine inspired cookie! 

The contents: 

🍪 Double Chocolate Chip Brookie - Classic chocolate chip cookie topped with our signature dark chocolate brownie with white chocolate chips

🍪 Cookie Dough Cake Pot - Super soft vanilla chocolate chip cake, vanilla buttercream, passionfruit curd and a chunk of cookie dough. 

🍪 The Tartine Cookie - Inspired by dreamy San Francisco bakery Tartine - a chocolate buckwheat cookie topped with Halen Mon salt.

🍪 The Cookie Cookie - A chewy vanilla cookie, filled with oreo, biscoff and lots of chocolate chips. The caramelised bits at the bottom are delicious! 

🍪 The Churros Cookie - Like a snickerdoodle cookie, but with extra cinnamon sugar, topped with buttercream and more cinnamon sugar. 

🍪  Cookie Monster Pop - Actually nice cookie dough! It won't set your teeth on edge, it's got tonnes of vanilla, and really good chocolate. You can buy the recipe from my website, or order this month's box - it's included in the magazine! 

🍫 Fatso Chocolate Bar - Nan's Stash Bar! Peanut, toffee and digestive biscuit.

Spooky Season is here! 

Happy New Year! I'm hoping 2021 will be a lot more positive for everyone. 

The first subscription box of the year is being dispatched on 21st January - the theme is Veganuary - a box full of vegan treats! 

My Crofton Park shop is sadly permanently closed, but when it was open on Saturdays our vegan treats were quite popular. I miss seeing a lot of my vegan customers, so I have designed this month's subscription box based on their favourite treats. 

• Cherry Bakewell Cake Pot - moist almond cake, with creamy almond flavoured buttercream and a dollop of black cherry jam, topped with flaked almonds and a mascharino cherry. 
• Biscoff Brownie - we've tried to get as close as we can to our standard brownie! Fudgy dark chocolate brownie, with a swirl of biscoff and chocolate chips. 
• Cookie Dough Party Pop - truffled vanilla cookie dough, with chocolate chips, dipped in dark chocolate, a swirl of white chocolate and topped with sprinkles. 
• Carrot & Walnut mini loaf - this was as popular as the brownies back in the day when we supplied coffee shops all over London! perfectly moist, spiced carrot cake with juicy sultanas and walnuts. 
• Limited edition Uniqucorn Popcorn - A mini bag of lemon meringue popcorn, something refreshing to accompany all the decadence! 
• The Happy Newspaper - We've ordered some back issues of The Happy News, so that hopefully you'll have a little escape from the January blues for a few minutes this month. 

There's the option to order a one-off box, or choose to live your best life for the forseeable future by subscribing to a monthly cake box (please note future months will not be vegan) 

This is the first and only vegan option available at the moment. If it is popular and receives good feedback, a vegan range will be launched in the future :)

It's been such a journey since my first batch of mail order treats back in October 2018! I loved making that first halloween themed box so much, I carried on making new designs. I could never have predicted not only how popular they would be from me - but to have other bakeries set up a similar service all over the world has been overwhelming! 

I have used Royal Mail since the beginning, but the service experienced delays so huge in some parts of the country, that I felt this would impact the quality of the service I offer. I've been working hard to replace all lost items, and may not be able to recover my costs from Royal Mail easily, so I have decided to upgrade to a next day courier. 

APC Overnight are specialists in delivering food and fragile items - a lot of my ingredients come via this courier, and I have mostly been impressed by them. The service is a little more expensive than Royal Mail, but I am absorbing the extra cost for now.  I have always been proud of the service I offer, and I want you to have your treats as soon as possible! 

Next working day delivery is available in most areas - one customer received a parcel I sent at 5pm in London by 9.30am in Glasgow! I do ask that you please bare in mind that some areas will experience some delays - we are still under Covid-19 restrictions and will be for quite a while. It's not easy on anybody, but we can all do our best to be patient and kind. 

If you miss your delivery, you are able to reschedule delivery within 3 days. The calendar on most mail order products allows you to select a dispatch date (this is the date APC collects your order from me, not the date they deliver it to you, so please order 1-2 days in advance) . If you do not select a dispatch date, the order doesn't automatically enter into my diary, which means that your order will be delayed by upto 21 days while I wait for it to filter to the front of the queue. 

If APC don't cover your area - I may still post out via Royal Mail 1st Class - I recommend ordering 2-3 days in advance for NI postcodes.

I thought I had better upload a blog post with up to date details regarding the current pandemic situation for Cat Food Cakes! 

Firstly - I would like to thank all of my customers for their patience at this time. It's difficult and stressful for everybody, whether you are quarantined or worrying about your job & future.

Royal Mail are still working as normal, but are experiencing some delays. Sorry for any inconvenience, please appreciate this is out of my control. If you pop a reply to your confirmation email I can then send over your tracking number as soon as possible. 

I am not currently accepting orders for celebration cakes, as the minimum servings are 8 slices I feel that this may enourage people to host gatherings, which is the last thing I want to do! 

If you already have bookings with me - I am more than happy to postpone until later in the year -  I would be so grateful if you could reply to confirmation emails regarding your booking, rather than begin new email chains as there is a higher volume of enquiries at the moment and this will make it easier for me to track.
